If I ordered a quilt (which I did), received it, made the quilt, plus one, sent it back, can I order another one to make? Or, are you only given one shot and have to make the rest of them out of your stash! Are you allowed to copy the pattern because they say to send it back! I am asking this because if I can't get another one, I have to copy the pattern so I can make my own to send. Got that?????? Hey, it's early and daylight savings time is over - and I have gained an hour but I wake up an hour early! I would really like to continue this! Make it part of my daily routine - put together a Quilt for Kids! I would like to be able to re-order because the fabric is so colorful and so kid-oriented! I hope they let me!

Thanks! Edie

You can print the pattern off of the link there are several patterns there. I don't know about getting more kits but it is worth a try.

Edie 11-05-2009 04:22 AM

Thanks, Iam going to try. I have a lot of coals in the fire and I do want to do this. My husband has had two bouts with cancer since 1985 (Leukemia and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) and I would like to do something for the kids - they don't understand it like an adult does - and even then adults don't understand :( . My husband has one more catscan in March and if all is well, he will be considered cured. Thank God! What I wanted to do is make one from Downy and then make one of my own (with as lively a fabric as a 71 year old broad has in her stash) and then send two at a time. I want to do my QOV's also. So much to do!

Again, thanks for your help!

Edie
You can download the instructions for all of their quilt on their web site, I could not see anything about ordering more than on quilt kit but there is a contact phone number and email for questions.

Thanks so much! Really appreciate your help! This is becoming a goal with me now. I would like to see how many I can make and get to them. That happens to me now and again. I love goals!!!!!!!

One year I made 48 quilts for ABC Quilts same type of program without the supply of materials. What a great thing you are doing.

Cresha 11-05-2009 06:26 AM

Yes you can order more kits. I have sent two back and have two more here now that are almost finished. Just go back to the site and order another one,

Edie 11-05-2009 07:12 AM

Thanks! I am going to do that right now! Edie

zennia 11-05-2009 01:24 PM

Good. I am going to oeder another one. I enjoyed making mine.

Pinkiris 11-05-2009 01:54 PM

When I signed up on the website , I told them that I was able to do two if that was allowed. I figured that if you could include a group of names, then they wouldn't mind if I did two. They must have thought that it was a good idea because I had my 2 kits in about 5 days! What cute focus fabrics they sent--rubber duckies and robots!

I haven't started the quilts yet, but I'm a little concerned about using their pre-cut pieces that haven't been washed. They seem too small to prewash. Anybody else have this concern/problem?

To be honest with you, I have never washed my fabric for my blocks, only the sashing, border backing and binding. Never have had a problem. I've been quilting for ten years now!

I have made three of the quilts now and I didn't wash any of the fabric before I sewed them together. They washed up really nice when they were finished. I like the way they "pucker" after they are washed and dried. I will try to post pictures tomorrow, no time tonight. I have to fix dinner.

Edie 11-05-2009 03:27 PM

I had totally forgotten about putting the baby quilt I made into the dryer. So many coals in the fire. I also like it when it comes out of the dryer and is all nice and soft and puckery. I love that look in a quilt.

Now I will finish the book that goes with it and that is that! Just when I start bonding with a quilt, it is done! :( But then it will go to a new baby in December and all will be well with the world and I will already be working on something else. Isn't quilting a hoot?????? :-)

Thanks for letting me know that I can order another kit so I always have one here in the wings  :D :D

namom5 11-08-2009 07:42 PM

Can someone give me the web site to order kits for the baby quilts. I would love to get in on making them. Thanks

Edie 11-09-2009 03:25 AM

Good Morning: This is how I got it - google downy-help a kid. Then click on Helping Kids, then how to help, then make a quilt, then get quilt info, then kits available on request and you are there. If I click on downy.com, it doesn't go through - so I just get there via the back door and it works fine.

This is such a wonderful thing and I am so glad so many of us have joined this happy bandwagon! Talk about an inundation of childrens quilts.

Change the subject here a little bit - I found the neatest journal, hard cover and before I get too old to remember to do this, I am going to make a list of each and every quilt that I have ever made, when I started, when I finished, what it was, who it was for and then I can look back and see how this whole love of quilting started and blame it all on my mother! All of it! I remember one Christmas, Mom was in her 80's and all of us were at her home for Christmas Eve. She came out of her bedroom with a huge pile of packages. Each one had a name on it. There were eight of them. She had made eight quilts - full size - each one different - for her three daughters and five grandchildren. The grandchildren (already married) were awestruck and the daughters cried. We had a gift that she had spent years in the planning, that being to hand all of them out at one time. I got the Sampler, which is probably why I love Sampler Quilts so much and do my designing, not so much by the color and pattern, but by event in our life or the special meaning of a special color in the quilt. Mom is 93 now and she is still quilting, but not as much. She has been the reason I love to quilt. I wish I had learned how to do this years ago. That's my little story and the start of my journal. I ordered and received six pkgs... there is a group of us who will do one fo theirs and do one from our own stashes too.... They were here within a few days!! Mine is done except quilting. HOWEVER - there is not binding fabric. Was it mis-packaged or do they want us to just bring the back around and sew it like that?

Cresha 11-09-2009 12:37 PM

They want you to bring the back around and bind it that way.

thismomquilts 11-09-2009 12:40 PM

That's what I thought - thanks!!! Will do.

watterstide 11-10-2009 05:16 PM

when you send it to them, you can either order another one, or they will email you..they emailed a friend of mine. you will always get a pattern with the quilt they send you..may be the same, may not be.
they have alot of free patterns on thier site...

Good job getting them done..sounds like you have alot on your plate..! but what a worthy cause!

I am finishing up my top as we speak and my directions included in my kit are:
..."Pillowcase method, traditional binding, or fold the backing to the front of the quilt. If using backing as a binding, cut the batting even with the top of the quilt and the backing an inch larger. Double fold the backing to the front of the quilt and topstitch with zig-zag, blanket stitch, etc. so it does not snag on an IV."

I was planning to use traditional binding but am not sure I have a good match for my pirate ship quilt.
