Question about Quilting a QR Code Quilt
I am happy to have finished the top for my QR code quilt, and it actually reads successfully!
Now my question is about quilting and thread color. My quilt is black and off-white with an imbedded image in dark red and a very pale peach. I would prefer to do a diagonal grid, but am concerned about the color of my thread disturbing the readability of the image. I could use gray in the black and white section and a peach color in the red section. What have been your experiences with quilting thread color on QR code quilts? Thanks! |
Ok I'm totally showing my ignorance here but what is a QR Code Quilt?

I'm curious also. I'll be watching.

these are some QR code quilts posted on the QB

I did not take any chance and I quilted mine the same color as the fabric I used, making sure not to go on the other color fabric.

I am sorry, but that is a very obscure abbreviation. Never heard it used before. I usually chose whatever thread looks best by drizzling the thread on the quilt. A photo always helps us with your question.
|
Obscure? I wouldn't say so...those things are EVERYWHERE these days. I've even seen them incorporated into tattoos.
There was a QR code quilt at the PQIF done in blues. I scanned it and got the maker's website. I love the idea but don't have a site to make it point to! (Although you can also make them just display text, it doesn't have to be a web link.) |
.004 nylon thread by YLI would not interfere with your image. Otherwise, you could try an off-white and see how that works against your image. In many cases, once all the quilting is finished, it doesn't appear to be as noticeable as you might have predicted.

Here is a picture of the quilt top, quickly taken before pressing was complete. Thanks for your responses so far. I think that a trial of a small amount of quilting and then an attempt to read again is the way I might go before doing all of the quilting. So far I have been impressed with the fact that it hasn't been picky. It reads with threads attached, incomplete pressing, and without being flat (hanging wavy) - not mention less than perfect corner matching in some places!

But you haven't told us what it SAYS, and I don't have a smartphone to check!
|
It is the website URL for the Bible camp where I donate a lot of my quilts. They have an annual quilt auction fundraiser. I will give them this, and they can either put it in the auction or keep it for display at camp. I believe they don't allow electronics during the camp session, but people tour the camp and parents come to bring their kids. They also have a lot of adult sessions, retreats, etc. during the year. It will be a novelty and generate conversation for them for a while if they choose to display it.

It takes you to a page about red willow bible camp.
|
Well done! Fun to make isn't it?
|
Yup, my phone picked it right up! redwillowbiblecamp.org for those of you without a smartphone.
Nicely done! |

I'm sure they will like it. It's unique. |
I am not sure if thread would make a difference or not. Why don't you try taking a QR code from a magazine or print out from your computer and take a colored pencil or something and draw through it like your quilting would be. Then you could see if it still worked?
