Question about a quilting tip

How do you bind a quilt using Elmer's glue?

Go to the Tutorials. Someone posted a complete tutorial on how to use Elmer's School Glue for piecing, basting, binding. That should help. Reminder: must be the Elmer's WASHABLE glue.

I'm new also, and I will definitely go to the tutorial. Does the dried glue gum up needles or sewing machines?

I just used Elmer's glue on the binding of a baby quilt and it was great! It did not gum up anything. I used Sharon Shamber's video on Binding the Angel....

Sharon was at the Paducah Quilt Show. I stopped to thank her for that video. Binding is one of my favorite quilting tasks thanks to her. Perfect every time.

You use the glue to hold the edges until they are stitched down - don't use only the glue - it will wash out.

I use washable school glue for bindings and basting the sandwich and have never had any issues with the needle getting gummed.....be sure to use a thin line of glue for bindings and iron dry....bindings will be stiff, but it all washes out and will be like no glue ever when done!.....using glue is the best thing since sliced bread!

Totally agree with Buckeye Rose

Just make sure the glue is dry before you sew and there will be no gummy needles. :)

I am a HUGE fan of both glue sticks & Elmer's for basting.

You only use tiny tiny drops of glue and iron dry or wait until dry. Drops too big gives a hard lump which you can sew through carefully . Don't forget when. You wash the quilt it will washout.
