Question about samples????

I have heard that some fabric company's will send you scrap samples...do any of y'all know of some that do this?

I don't know of any fabric manufacturer that does this for the public. They will send samples to distributors and the distributors can give those to anyone. I know Marshall's Dry Goods gets large size samples of the new fabrics from the manufacturers and was told they are donated to a local group that makes donation quilts.

backsidefabrics.com will send you small (about 2x4 inches) swatches of fabrics. It really helped me out because it also gave me a better idea of the quality of the different priced fabrics.

This is the first I've heard of this. Good to know.

I have never heard that being done. I have have bought wholesale from Hoffman, RK and P&B. I do know that RK gives their leftover scraps to charity organization with the correct credentials. My church group leader has to pick them up. P&B also use to donate to charities with their leftovers. The salesman carry around sample cards to show owners of quilt shops the actually fabric in order to pre-order a collection. That may be what you are referring to. I use to get them from someone who worked for RJR. I see them occasional for sale on eBay.

A lot of the manufacturers actually sell these when they have in house sales for their wholesale customers. I know that Moda does. They normally have them out when the have their twice yearly event

You can purchase swatches from Fabric.com - and at other on-line shops I have occasionally asked for and received 1/2"-1" strips so I could match colors. I thought it was thoughtful, and I try to use those shops again because of their courtesy.

I remember some years back getting little 1" or 1 1/2" squares from Keepsake Quilting of all their fabrics, it couldn't hurt to just ask for some samples.

Yes, this was before internet ordering. You ordered by mail, attaching the sample to the paper order form. Coincidentally I just found this pack of 1.25" squares in some of my stuff on Sunday. There are probably 320 little squares here.

I've gotten sample books of drapery and upholstery fabric from a home decorator who retired.

I made a wall hanging from those sample swatches. I call it "Wildly Charming".
