question about tension

I am fmq. If the top tension is on 0 and is still too tight, how do I adjust the bottom tension ? I only have tension issues with fmq. thank you

You adjust your bobbin tension by turning the tiny screw on the bobbin case on most machines. Take a picture of the screw position before you start so you can return it back for regular sewing.

what she said. and start with only small turns!

If the upper tension is on 0 and is too tight, the thread might be wrapped around the spool pin or hanging up on something. I'd re-thread the upper thread. Then if it doesn't change with re-threading the top thread, the bobbin thread might not be under the tension spring. I'll bet if you re-thread top and bottom, you'll be alright.

Are you using an electronic machine? If so, you can set the tension to zero. If you have a dial, you often can continue to twist it to continue to loosen the tension. If you do decide to adjust the bobbin tension, use a fine tip sharpie to mark the starting position in case you want to go back to the original tension. As mentioned, make very tiny adjustments!
