A question about threading the Pfaff QE 4.0
 

Sometimes while I'm sewing/FMQ the needle thread blouses out between the last guide and the needle. When this happens the needle thread doesn't pickup the bobbin thread. I've re-threaded several times, but I must be making the same mistake over and over. Do any of you know what I'm doing wrong? BTW, I think the QE threads the same as the Viking 930. If it is a needle threading problem, I think it maybe at the take up lever. I would appreciate any help from you who may know. I've gone to You tube and viewed videos, but there is no real closeup of threading the take up lever.

a correction to above question: this only happens when I'm FMQ. In regular straight stitching the machine thread doesn't get slack in it and it sews fine.. I also noticed that the fabric is moving up and down with the needle. Do you think my hands should be closer to the FMQ foot and have better control over the fabric movement?

Are you using the sensormatic function? If you are do you change the pivot height
to -2 or-3? I also take the auto lift off when FMQing

Yes, the sensormatic function, the pivot hight is 1. I think the auto lift is on, at least I haven't turned it off. I'll check that. Thanks for your fast reply.

I believe that on some of the first made 4.0, I have one of these, there were many parts that were faulty. I had my 4.0 in the shop lots when I first had it and I think that there was something that was replaced on my to prevent this problem. The good news is that after I got all the faulty t
things fixed, it's a good machine now! You might have to check with your dealer on this one, it was quite a while ago For mme and I just can't remember exactly

Janie, do you set the pivot height at the 2 or 3 you mentioned? I haven't had a chance to try it again since I posted the question.

Well, I've tried all the above tips and they didn't solve the problem. I've even changed thread, bobbin, and needle. Would you all mind telling me what your settings are. Mine are: either sensormatic/spring (this happens in both methods); pivot height (I've tried 0,1,2,3); stitch length default to zero, presser feet -down, needle size 14 quilting needle. What am I missing. I have quilted several quilt projects and never had this problem. I feel like it will be something small that I've over looked. Thanks for sticking with me on this.
