Question about using Silk Thread in a Long Arm
 

I have a special piece that I am going to be using silk thread for the quilting on it. I was wondering should I use a cotton or a trilobal poly.

I am going to be using the Fil-Tec Silk thread, it is a 60wt silk. They have a 50wt Long staple cotton and a 40wt trilobal poly.

I am thinking the 50wt cotton might be better than the 40wt poly, just because of the weight.

What do you all recommend?

Wow, talk about NOT being clear here. I am going to use the silk on top, the question is related to the bobbin thread :)

I would opt for their 50wt cotton in the bobbin. My understanding is that using a cotton thread with a slippery thread helps maintain a balanced stitch, as the cotton "grabs" the other thread. Plus, the two threads would be closer in weight to each other which also helps.

I'll have to look on the Fil-Tec site. Didn't know they offer a 60wt silk thread! I'd like to try it too. Please post how you liked working with it!
