question - Bernina 830

I have had my 830 about 2 years but it is only in the last 6 months I have really begun to use it. Today I tried to use a stitch pattern from the 800 group but they were all greyed out. Every other numeric series appears to be available. Any suggestions are welcome.

Did you go to the classes? My friend waited too long to use all the features on her 830 and discovered a problem she never used it to know about. Cost her a big repair bill. I would call your dealer and hopefully it's an easy fix. A feature loaded machine needs to be put through the paces as soon as possible.

Good advice OnebyOne---today I used tons of decorative stitches on my Elna while working on a beach bag for DIL---while doing it I kept thinking I should do it more often to "put the machine through it's paces"---especially before taking it in for a tune-up/maintenance.

l often wonder why we buy machines with many stitches, then use only a few. This year l made table runners for Christmas bazaar and used several decorative stitches in the borders while quilting. l had so much fun...l vowed to use more of my machines huge assortment!

I seldom use the decorative stitches on my Bernina 1530. It had been so long since I had used the buttonhole stitch, I had to reread the instructions. I think that you will have to take in in and see what is wrong with it. I didn't realize that Bernina reused the number again because the original 830 was a mechanical sewing machine. Good Luck.

I think reusing the 830 number was the dumbest thing ever for Bernina to do.

It probably means that you need a different presser foot, or needle plate to do those stitches. Sometimes you have to program the needle plate and presser foot into the machine, or it has to recognize it from the frog-eye on the foot.

Did you figure it out? IF not pm me and I will walk you through it. Best in the am as I have had a long day and not sure if I could do that tonight.:)

Those may be the sideways motion stitches. If they are, you need to put the #40 (I think) foot on the machine prior to selecting that group of stitches. Then you should have them available to you. I had the same issue and called my dealer and he talked me thru the issue. Good luck.
