Question on "Birthing" a quilt
 

I have read the postings on the Board re birthing a quilt but I still have questions. Do you glue or spray baste (or if using iron on batting) to the back or to the front section of the quilt? Maybe it doesn't make any difference. Do you still hand or pin baste the sandwich together before sewing and then remove the pins in order to turn it right side out? Sorry if this all sounds rather elementary but I have never done this before. Thanks for all your help. This board is better than a class where you only get one way to do things. I love all the input.

I pin basted but put the batting on the back. It worked better for me. Have you checked for any u-tube videos?? The size of your opening depends on the size of the quilt. You have to be able to turn the whole quilt inside out thru the opening. Keep that in mind.

Don't glue it LOL ... I tried that on my first one ... it doesn't work (thankfully, I was just practising and didn't wreck a quilt!)

I put the batting on the floor and then iron it. Then I put the backing on and iron in and then I tape it to the floor. Then I put the top on and iron it.

I always iron from the middle out - but you are pressing ... not ironing to the point of warping the fabric ... make sense?

The I pin all the way around the edges. Then I sew it together and turn it inside right.

Try a small one and you'll see how it works!

By all means try it on a small one. ask me how I know.

no basting of any kind required. usually "birthed" quilts are then tied.
