I was just wondering if the majority of your swaps are including prewashed fabrics? I saw some that are. I am interested in participating (after the new year) in some of the swaps but have to have prewashed.
If it states must be prewashed, I would be ok with those ones. If it doesn't state that, does that mean it doesn't have to be?

I didn't think I would be in anymore swaps...now I can! :)

I'm not sure if there's any way to really control washed or unwashed. I think most folks try to comply, but you still might get unwashed fabrics.

Some of the ones I have looked at state that fabric must be prewashed.

I have been in swaps where the fabric swaps were supposed to be prewashed, and a note in the package said that they were not. One member was in a position that she had to run and buy the FQ's as a family emergency had come up. So she bought and mailed them on the way out of town, so she wasn't late mailing them.
So, I guess if there is a medical reason that concerns you? You may want to choose swaps that the items could go immediately in your washer to get rid of whatever it is you are worried about in the fabrics :wink: :D:D:D

According to the rules of the board all fabric is supposed to be washed :

5. When an activity includes swapping fabrics, they should be washed, dried and ironed and cut as precisely as your skills allow. Oranizers should not require they be starched or otherwise treated unless it's essential to success in the type of project involved. Those of us who don't normally prewash should make exceptions when joining in group activities. It's a courtesy to others who may have allergies or other health needs requiring smoke and animal free environments/supplies.

Most of them ask for washed fabrics. If there is a concern for you it's OK to ask that your fabrics be washed.

Thank you all for helping me with that. I did not read the rules yet Sharon, but it looks like you all have them covered in here! At another forum that I belong to, they didn't require that they be washed and they weren't as concerned with followign the guidelines, so I had given up hope on joining more swaps, but I do miss doing them.
I think I can confidently join some on here, but will wait till after the holidays.

Honestly, I don't think they are all pre-washed BUT I do think that you could let the person in charge know that you have to have yours pre-washed and she could let the person who gets your name know. I know if I was told that my assigned partner had allergies or whatever, I would make VERY sure to pre-wash and rinse a couple of times. Have fun with the swaps!!

What kind of sweet little angel-drop is your avatar? I have two little angel-drops, Taz (sounds like an angel, huh?) & Boomer (no gracefulness there!). They are shih-tzus.

I have a problem with prewashing. I'm in a financial situation where we literally cannot afford to use a washer & dryer - or the launderomat. We didn't get a new washer/dryer when ours broke, partly because of the cost, partly because of the electric bill. We wash our clothes in a bucket, with a plunger, and then hang them to dry either on our deck, or in front of our fire. I literally don't have the option to wash a lot of fabric, no time, and it would take a while to dry. We are on the SNAP program, or food stamps, and try to save pennies where we can.
