I haven't had a problem cutting through 8 layers when I have done it.. but then I do put in a fresh blade if it is not cutting nice enough. A new blade makes all the difference.

I am unable to cut through more than 2 layers of material at a time. I mark the points of the triangles I want to cut out and use my rotary cutter and ruler. No problem.
