I just bought a Juki 2010Q and love it!!! I have it sitting in my sewing cabinet. Just finished piecing my grandson's quilt and started the FMQing this morning. Having the 9" throat is wonderful.

I don't think I would call that machine a true long arm.. its does have a larger throat than some machines.. but longarm???!!!

Midarm machines start with about a 13" throat. Longarms start with about a 17" throat and can go up to 28" or so (maybe 32"?).
The Juki with a 9" throat is still a shortarm machine. The throat is bigger than most domestic machines, but still relatively small -- especially for frame work. This Juki is usually used for piecing and quilting, similar to quilting on any other domestic machine, but the throat area makes working on a large quilt easier. Actually Juki recently came out with a longarm machine, and I thought this was the one you were referring to. From what I have read it's a nice machine but has some quirks and limitations that would rule it out as a choice for me. My "dream" longarm machine is an Innova! |
Thanks for replying so quick, I will have to do some thinking on this, Thank You

I just purchased a Juki2010Q, I love it! My advice is before you buy online, check with your local dealer. Mine matched internet pricing, showed me how to thread it and set it up. Now I have a local adviser and service.

I have an older Juki TL 98Q...it isn't a long arm...only 7". I wouldn't purchase the machine unless you have actually seen it and checked it out. I highly recommend buying from a dealer...most will match internet prices...plus you will get personal help.

I agree, it's definitely not a longarm, not even a midarm, but it does have a fantastic reputation for piecing, and many people quilt on it too.

That Juki is a sweet machine! A lot of people buy them to put on the Grace machine quilting frames. The 2000Qi doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the 2010, but is a real workhorse.

The throat space is only 3in. wider than your regular(sp.) machine. I have one and Boy do I wish I went for least a Short-arm. I do fight sometimes when I do a queen size. tinkeer
