Question for Elna owners
 

I have an Elna 7300 and it has been Wonderful. Then I had it maintenanced this last fall and the man has a great rep so this is not to put anything on him. Anyway since I've gotten it back I'll be sewing along and without warning the bobbin thread will start looping (stitches are big loops of thread). The other night sewing binding on a small table runner that should have taken me 20 minutes took over 4 hrs! The ripping out and crying took a lot of time plus trying different needles, rethreading, changing bobbin, using silicone circle under bobbin,(per Leah Day) taking it out every possible thing I could think of. I couldn't stop because it was a shower gift for the next day. I took it back to him once and of course it wouldn't do it then. I'm taking it to him again Friday. Anyone have any ideas or have you experienced this? I know he wants to solve this. Could it have anything to do with a factory setting? I average 5-10 hrs a week or so when I'm in sewing mode. But there are "no sewing" stretches too. It's not overworked. I bought it in Aug. of 2008. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you bring it back in, bring some samples with the loopy stitching with you. Then he can see what is happening when the machine is misbehaving. Also bring the thread you have been using, and try a few different types of fabric weights and see if it is better or worse. Bring those too! A good technician can get a lot of information from this to figure out the problem. Good luck!

Are you sure it's the bobbin thread looping? The best way to tell for sure is to sew with different colors top and bottom. If the loops are on the bottom it's probably the top thread causing the problems.

Be sure to bring in the same materials you were working with when the looping happened.
