yep - everything that comes in must be checked before leaving. lunch bags, anything but pockets. I always joke that I have an Ott light in my purse.

Way back in the dark ages (1973) I worked at Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, CA as a computer programmer. Rohr made large components for jet engines (among other things) and so my work site was in the factory. I thought it strange that every day all the factory workers had to open their lunch pails to show that they weren't carrying out anything belonging to the company, but I was never asked to open my briefcase, which could have contained a mag tape with all sorts of sensitive, proprietary company information.

I worked in a department store that was having a terrible time with theft. The security guards practically frisked us when we left each day. Turned out the security guards were the ones stealing. You just never know.

I work at a financial institution and our purses have to be either put in the lunchroom (no lockers) or locked in our vehicle.

I remember one of my accounting professor's relating a similar story. The overnight security guards were stealing merchandise from a department store.

At several places around here they have to have clear bags to bring their personal items in.

If you don't have anything in your purse it shouldn't bother you to show someone ...even in front of customers. It shows you are an honest and trustworthy person that isn't hiding anything... in my humble opinion

My college roomies worked for Sears. If they brought a purse to work, it had to be transparent. All contents needed to be visible from the outside of the purse.

Every honest paying customer pays for retail theft whether it is internal or customer theft. Be thankful for their vigilance, it is saving you money.
