I always wash them in cold water and throw them in the dryer. Then make my quilt. I have never had a problem. I also make alot of pillow cases and they work out great. I even use fabric softner sheets

I made a lap quilt for a friend with Joanns flannel. I prewashed and dried on warmer than it would washed after making so it shrank as much as it was going to before I made it. My GF says it washes up nicely.

I often buy flannel at JoAnn's. I have found two grades of flannel. One time I bought 9 different flannels at once and 2 of them were noticeably thinner than the others. Just feel for weight and softness. Some of their flannel selvages are much too wide and you must waist like an inch or so.

When JoAnn's Black Friday sale was .99 a yard for the flannel, I always bought approx. 100 yds at a time. Today I just bought 25 yards and I waited until 6pm to avoid the crowd. I always pre-wash in cold and dry on high as yes, it does shrink but I have never had a problem with it holding up.

I bought a bunch of the Snuggle flannel from Joanns today, I wash it and dry it in the dryer. Be sure and use a color catcher in the wash cycle if you buy any flannel with red in it, in fact use 2, red bleeds like crazy.

I set my timer for 10 minutes when I throw the flannel in the dryer and stop the dryer every 10 minutes to clean out the lint trap - you will have a truckload of lint!!
