Want to hand embroider and put into quilt , have seen this , but, usually a wall hanging or pillow or framed etc. Would it not survive being made into a quilt for use ? I know I've seen machine embroidered ones. Don't want to put all that work in and be for nothing !!
Thanks, You all are so great in answering. hugs |
It will be just fine. Use a thread that can be laundered and don't use any exceptionally long embroidery stitches, because they could catch on something.

there was one posted this week. i believe the question related to how it should be quilted. search and ye may find.

i'm working on my 3rd hand embroidered quilt- the first one i did was in 1976---and my 35 year old daughter still has it---and her girls have had picnics on it- and played with it-it has held up amazingly well- the second one i gave my mother in law 3 years ago- it is on her bed- i've not heard of any problems-
the third one i have half the blocks done-but have kind of (lost interest) so have not been working on it- i probably should finish it. as long as you are using good quality fabrics/ materials- and you piece it well there is no reason to think it will not last for many years- there are tons of hand embroidered quilts in museums....look at all the crazy quilts with all the embroidery-- |
I have a hand embroidered quilt on my webshots in the quilt section. I made it 7 years ago. It has been washed once.

My mother gave me some hand-embroidered nursery rhyme blocks she made when she was a teenager. When my son was born in 1979, I made a "quilt" for him using those blocks. I just sewed them tohether, hand tied it, and bound it with seam-binding tape. It went through wash after wash for two babies, and it still looks great. When I learn that my first grandchild is on the way, I plan to take it all apart, give it a sashing, a proper binding, some borders, and FMQ it. I expect it has plenty of life left in it. Your embroidered blocks should hold up just fine.
