Want to hand embroider and put into quilt , have seen this , but, usually a wall hanging or pillow or framed etc. Would it not survive being made into a quilt for use ? I know I've seen machine embroidered ones. Don't want to put all that work in and be for nothing !!
Thanks, You all are so great in answering. hugs

It will be just fine. Use a thread that can be laundered and don't use any exceptionally long embroidery stitches, because they could catch on something.

i'm working on my 3rd hand embroidered quilt- the first one i did was in 1976---and my 35 year old daughter still has it---and her girls have had picnics on it- and played with it-it has held up amazingly well- the second one i gave my mother in law 3 years ago- it is on her bed- i've not heard of any problems-
the third one i have half the blocks done-but have kind of (lost interest) so have not been working on it- i probably should finish it.
as long as you are using good quality fabrics/ materials- and you piece it well there is no reason to think it will not last for many years-
there are tons of hand embroidered quilts in museums....look at all the crazy quilts with all the embroidery--

I have a hand embroidered quilt on my webshots in the quilt section. I made it 7 years ago. It has been washed once.

My mother gave me some hand-embroidered nursery rhyme blocks she made when she was a teenager. When my son was born in 1979, I made a "quilt" for him using those blocks. I just sewed them tohether, hand tied it, and bound it with seam-binding tape. It went through wash after wash for two babies, and it still looks great. When I learn that my first grandchild is on the way, I plan to take it all apart, give it a sashing, a proper binding, some borders, and FMQ it. I expect it has plenty of life left in it. Your embroidered blocks should hold up just fine.
