If you are adding 3 borders of different widths do you add them one at a time or do you sew all three strips together and add them as one border? These will be mitered.

Thanks for your opinion.

I usually add them one at a time but if you are mitering them it might be better to sew the three together and then just do the 4 miter's instead of 12.

I find that if you just add all the borders and then miter, you get a very nice line.

I like this idea  since you are planning to miter them.
It's what I would do.

I like to do them one at a time. Just works best for me.

Thanks for the replies. I always sew the strips together and treat them as one border but was reading somewhere that you should add them each seperately. I think it would be so much harder to get a straight line on the miter. Just wondered what the majority did.

Thanks for starting this cool thread about borders!

Just my 2 cents but I also sew all border strips together then mitre them as one.

raptureready 03-29-2010 06:23 AM

If I'm mitering I sew them together first. If not, then one at a time.

This is really interesting! I am a newbie (been at it for 2 months now) and have done 5 quilts, and always done the borders one at a time. Now I might have to rethink this!

So glad this thread was posted!
