A question to Pfaff QE 4.0 users
 

I have discovered that the thread guide (wire loop) above the needle is shredding my thread no matter what the tension is or what kind of thread I'm using. I think it may have a barb or sharp edge. Right now I'm sewing without threading through that guide and it works fine, but I want to fix it. Have any of you experienced anything like this? Let me know what you think. P.S. I live 100 miles from the nearest Pfaff dealer.

I don't have that Pfaff. Mine is an Expression 2, but I hate to think of any Pfaff with a problem. I have not had that problem, but I was wondering if you could just sort of "sand" it, if you think it may have a sharp edge? Maybe an emery board would work, or you could cut one down if it was too big.

You will surely have better answers than mine though. :) I think I would be tempted to just continue skipping that guide.

I know the one you mean. I just had a good look at mine and spoke to DH (an engineer). If you had a jewellers loup or other strong magnifying glass you may be able to see it. If not, he suggested a thin strip of really fine emery paper - cover the feed dogs and needle hole so you don't get any dust in the machine.

Run the strip between the loop and the black screw holder a couple of times, then turn the paper to the other side so it's against the black side as you don't know what side the burr is on.

I thought of running a piece of fluffy yarn or embroidery thread to see if you could 'feel' the snag. One last thought - do you have any silicone spray? A tiny drop on the end of a cotton bud may help lubricate it enough so it doesn't catch. Good luck!
