At what size does a wall hanging become a quilt?? I know this sounds really weird to some of you. But once a person addes borders to a wall hanging, at what size do you consider it too big to be a wall hanging? I gave my sister a pattern for a wall hanging and she added borders, no the thing looks big enough to be a bed quilt...lol can someone settle this for us?

I have seen people hang bed quilts on a wall, I don't think there is a "certain" size, it is a personal preference :D:D:D
A quilt is a top/batting/backing that has been tied or quilted to hold the sandwich together... it can be tiny or a hundred+ feet long like one I saw online :D:D:D |
I make queen sized bed quilts but every one has found it's way to a wall. In fact, when we built the studio, I purposely put in an extra-long curtain rod on a blank wall so that I can display my most recent quilts.

If you ask me, it only depends on where it's hanging and that the "scale" be right. If there's lots of room, make a big one ... If it's a small space, make a small one. Not much help, maybe, but practical.

My opinion? ANY size if it is three layers and quilted in some way!
|
It could also depend on wall space. For me, it would have to be fairly small because I just don't have much wall to hang it.

I've hung bed-sized quilts on large walls. I'm just careful about sunlight, but we don't get all that much!!!
The other posters are right: It depends on personal preference really. |

I have cathedral ceilings. Anything goes! :)

if it's too small to be a quilt then it's a wallhanging or if it's big and you want to look at it all the time then it's a wallhanging.

since there are 'wall-quilts' out there that are bigger than most king sized quilts i don't think size has anything to do with it being a wall hanging or not. my dr office has a quilt hanging in a hall that is 12 foot square!
if you make a wall hanging, that's what it is...if you make a bed quilt or a throw..well that's what you have too...i have 'quilts' that are only 30"x45" and i have wall hangings that are 54"x72"... how you choose to use your quilt determines what it is .. not it's size  ...well size might matter but only if you make it matter. |
i would say if it fits on the wall it could be a wall hanging LOL
