I made a throw cover top.Bought the backing 45in.Well it isn't wide enough for the throw cover. Now what am I to do?
Cut the throw down on all sides or buy the quiltbacking?I hate to do that as it is like 16.99 a yard and it takes more than a yard for the throw?HELP!

Generally people piece the back if they don't have a piece wide enough.

when I goof and buy the backing too small, I piece it as borders with scraps from the top...if not available either, you can use neutrals or coordinating fabrics too. It actually adds something extra to the design too, and if you just split your backing and insert a piece in the middle, people will think you planned it that way

How big is your quilt? For most quilts you need to put more than one width of 45" fabric together.

I don't have the URL handy, but there is a method by John Flynn for the backing that might help. Hopefully someone will post the URL.

Piece the back, it gives it more character  :D:D:D

I always use some of the fabric from the front & put a border around all 4 sides on the back to make the back large enough. Just be carful when making your sandwich that you have equal amounts of border on all four sides of the back. I stick a straight pin through the top to make sure back is lined up correctly when back is pieced.

Check out the site http://www.ohfransson.com She pieces her quilt backs with different fabrics all the time and they look neat.

add a strip down the center of that fabric (after you cut in half). make it maybe the size of your blocks on front at least. we hardly ever make qlts the width of fabric. what a novel idea!! hmmmm. no more pieced backs.
