I think that they are referred to as Microwave Bowls. I don't know what exactly is 100% cotton because if it has scrim in it (which MOST current battings have), it has some polyester in it. I have been told NOT to microwave longer than 3 minutes while it is underneath a bowl of chili or soup.

I agree with Ditter, fabric like anything else has a flashpoint and if it gets too hot, even with a glass of water beneath it, it can flash as soon as air hits it when you open the door Safer to make casserole carriers or such.

Fabric bowl holders (potholders) that have insulbrite in them are more likely to catch fire, or so I have been told. The shiny stuff in them that makes them so heat proof is actually metal. Not good in the microwave.

Why would anyone put a potholder in a microwave? I put hot dishes on them from the stove or microwave but never in the microwave or oven.
