In various posts on this board mention has been made of using glue or glue stick to hold fabric in position in lieu of basting.
I'm wondering if what I'm considering would be an appropriate usage. I'm doing double piping around my blocks as I attach the sashing. Since I'm having trouble keeping the folded strips from slipping and don't really want to baste them if I can do it another way, I was thinking it might work to use the glue stick to hold them in place. With now being all the back to school sales, it would be the ideal time to get glue sticks! Has anyone tried this? How well did it work? |
I haven't done glue sticks or piping, but I just finished glueing the binding on a quilt and then using the machine to stitch it down. It was absolutely wonderful. I will never do a binding again without glueing it first. Sure beats all those pins. Try it, and I am sure that you will like the result.

what type of glue?

I love doing the glued binding and will never go back. My daughter recently finished her first two quilts and I taught her the glue method. She has them enterd in a quilt show and the judges commented on voth quilts about her perfext vinding, mitered corners and how flat the edges are. We used just simple Elmers school washable glue. Be sure its the school glue.

I see no reason why you couldn't it..just make sure it is a washable glue stick..after all, Roxanne glue baste it is still a top selling notion!

I use glue sticks and Elmers SCHOOL GLUE for all my basting now. I have seen your idea done on either tv or web site and it made everything work well.

I use fabric glue when I'm trying to get a difficult seam matched.

My SP sent me a glue stick, and I just looked at it and thought what am I suppose to do with this, well it said washable so I decided to use it instead of pins when matching up squares and I love it. So now I use it on almost everything...it keeps the fabric in place...So off to the store and bought more...LOL

try it---the best way to see if it will work-
i stock up on glue sticks- buy them in 4-packs at the dollar store- i use them for so many different things- and the glue does wash out when not sure try it and see |
i glue baste all the time and see no reason why it wouldn't work for piping.
i would certainly do the same thing you're suggesting. |
