I just looked at a beautiful in progress D9P. It talked about squaring the blocks before finishing and using a 6 or 12 in square. Can someone explain this?? Do you just put in in the center and cut around all sides?? Or do you put it in the corner (bottom left perhaps??) and trim around that?
I Love this Site because you alllll have allllll the answers!!
Thanks in advance!
Melinda

It is hard to describe how to square up blocks, you want to do so without losing points or having lopsided squares.

I try moving the square up ruler around the block, auditioning different places that I "could" make the cuts.

With the D9P, I would probably start by placing the ruler in the center of the block, lining up seam lines with the rulers markings. This ensures that your block won't end up "wonky." I would try to cut the same amount of fabric off, all the way around the block.

If you placed the ruler in one corner and started cutting, two sides would have squares that are smaller than the other two sides.

I kinda see "how wonky" my block is, and try to keep the center, centered. With a disappearing 9 patch, you will not really be able to notice if one block ends up slightly bigger than another due to squaring because you ultimately cut through the middle, kwim?

Watch the videos they are great even I learn things to make squaring easier.

I would love us to have a tutorial on this! I can't do one because I am a learner or I would do it.
If you square differently on various patterns could we have a tutorial on each one possible? Any takers? Please.
Then those of us who can't get the video's to work will still be able to learn.
