I got a request for a twin size quilt for a little 3 year old girl today. Her mother is legally blind and wanted to know if I would make her little girl a quilt that she could use now and for a long time in the future.

She wanted one made from flannel. But I wanted to ask if someone could suggest a pattern that would be good for a 3 year old, but would still be good for later. She said she loved frogs and pink, polka dots and stripes. With just two or three different fabrics, what pattern would work best?

I would appreciate a suggestion for a pattern that would work with flannel.

Pinwheel blocks are timeless, as are dots and stripes. She might out-grow the frogs. And I'd prewash flannel. The usually shrink more than other fabrics.

my youngest grand daughter whos 4 loves everything I do a pattern makes not a difference, the colors do and the things they love do.

make the quilt reversible.

do a little qirl quilt on one side, and an age neutral, but feminine pattern for the other side using the same or similar color pallette.

Are the 3D pinwheels hard to make? That way I could use some of my scraps.

How about a scrappy irish chain and you could slip a few special frog patches so they would be discreet and fun for a three year old to find. I would do it in shades of pink and green!
