I have a Janome 6600p and have had it about a year I clean it regularly for the lint and such, I guess I am wondering do I need to take it for service on a yearly basis or only if I am having issues, thanks

There is another thread going on right now about this same thing and it has been garnering both the every year advocates and the every few years group as well. I think it depends on how much you use it and how well you clean it. You are protecting your investment with the professional cleanings and check-ups, so I don't really think there is a hard and fast answer. I have mine cleaned every few years just because I have to drive so far to find an authorized technician.

My Bernina 440QE tells me with a little oil can icon when it needs to be serviced. Depends on how much you sew/quilt. I've been doing lots of both this year and my oil can has come on the the 3d time.

When I was doing a lot of machine quilting, I would take mine in for servicing once a year. It may have some parts that need to be clean and lube that you may not be able to get at. How often do you have your oil changed in your car???

I have mine done every few years. I was told by a Dealer that that was all that was necessary if I kept it clean etc.

I take all my machines in once a year(one at a time). A good service tech can find any damage that maybe going on that can be corrected before it becomes a major expense.
