I have a silly question. I am using flannel for my baby quilts. This is my first time to use flannel. Does it shrink alot or can I sew the quilts and them wash them. They will be all flannel with poly batting.

I ususally don't prewash except if it is flannel. Flannel seems to shrink a lot more and also more unevenly. I will always prewash flannel, especially if you are mixing different flannels together.

I always wash flannel, it seems to shrink more than regular cotton.

Sometimes flannel shrinks a lot so I always try to wash mine first.

I would wash it first unless it is the raggedy quilt and then I don't cuz I want it to unravel more !

Wow. Seems to be unanimous to wash first. Guess I wash first. Thanks.

If you strip piece first and then cross cut, you can make a cute rag rail fence in an afternoon. Believe me, I know! If you really want to hurry it up, make every second square just a plain square and rotate the rail fence squares. Looks really cute and goes together quickly. (says the person who is just now going to catch the plane to go and see her first grand child. I had to finish two quilts this week!!! And yet my daughter was pregnant for nine months! Go figure. )

Thanks for the tips. Judith, you are so funny. Amazing how fast nine months goes. I am in the same boat. I have known since the girls were six weeks along and now I am scrambling to get these done.
