I keep reading on the board about using basting spray my question is how do you use it and where do you use it. I do not want to mess up my carpet or my wood floors please help.

Some people will use it to hold applique pieces in place while they stitch them down. Lay the applique piece in a cardboard box with sides high enough to contain the over spray while applying the spray to the pieces.

Others may spray batting then layer their quilt top on it to keep it from shifting while quilting, again make sure you lay down a larger piece of fabric, old sheet or something to catch the over spray so it does not get on a table, floor, carpet, etc.

When I use basting spray- I use it outside - some lay plastic down first to protect what is underneath :thumbup:

I have always don it outside on the picnic table, now that it is winter I will use a plastic drop cloth or newspaper around the edges and just be careful.

Thanks for all these points-I also just got some 505 basting spray and was wondering the best way (and place) to use it.

If I do it inside, I use old sheets to completely cover everything - the floors, any furniture, etc.

Then I bundle up the old sheets and put them in the washer. It washes out every time.

I have a great big peice of builders plastic that I lay out on my floor to catch the over spray. On smaller projects I use news paper. I find basting spray helps alot with stablising the quilt or runner or whatever I am quilting and stops puckering. I only stitch in ditch, havent been game enought to try free motion yet!

I put newspapers around the edge to catch the overspray. It work just fine.
