Question to those who starch
 

Do you starch batik?

Yes I use a ton of starch on all my fabrics including Batiks which are my preferred fabric for quilting.

Sure, if I need to, especially if I'm doing bias cuts. There's no reason why you can't or shouldn't.

I don't usually starch. I do starch triangles and pieces that have a bias edge. Same for baticks although they do not seem to stretch as much as some other fabrics

Thank you for your replies. I starch everything but I've never worked with
batik so I was just wondering if it takes starch like other cotton fabrics.

Yes, I starch batiks too!

I do use spray starch on anything that gets a bias cut; but I use my homemade Best Press on all fabric--gave of steam as tired of shrinking stuff!

I'm working on a quilt now that is all batiks. I starched every one of those fabrics. I can feel that some of them have taken the starch differently - or perhaps were just heavier/tighter weave to begin with. But I starch everything to within an inch of it's life all the time.

I starch everything including pre-cuts but not backings or battings. I make up my solution, soak the fabrics in a dishpan, then wring them thru an old wringer washer top section I rigged up over my double sink, then hang them up to dry. Then mist them when I go to press them out. Trying to wring large amount of fabrics was getting too hard for my hands plus put more wrinkles into the fabrics. This wringer contraption makes less wrinkles as the fabric is run thru it. Its not pretty but its functinonal.

Batiks are one of the only fabrics I pre wash and always starch. I do this to insure there is no running of the colors with some of the deeper color combos.
