A friend and I are discussing thread color for quilting a quilt. She uses off white to quilt all her quilts, I match my thread to my material.
I know it may depend on the look you want. Would just like to know if there is a "norm" Thanks in advance, ya'll are always so helpful |
I try to sort of match the bobbin thread to the backing fabric. On the top my favorite thing to use is Variagated thread. Or if I don't have a variagated thread I pick a thread color out of the top fabrics that I want to "highlight"

There are no rules. Use whatever you like or what works for the quilt.:)
There is no "norm" only personal opinions and preferences.
Personal preference! I have a quilt I am mulling over now too--a lot of dark and some black--so... I am still mulling.
It depends on what you want highlighted in your quilt. If you want the piecing highlighted, then you'll want to match the thread to the fabric color. If you want the quilting to stand out, use a contrasting colored thread (i.e. Silver thread on black fabric or yellow thread on blue fabric).
