Crumb quilting is a Crazy Quilt technique. I call my version Confusion. It is a form of quilting that has been handed down through the generations. We have just found a way to make the crazy patch without a backing to sew the pieces to.

Yes it is worth it. It is an art form that I enjoy. It isn't all about going green but it is an expression of creativity first and foremost. Each one of the blocks are unique and the finished project has a charm that can't be duplicated.

They are easy to make. You just lay two pieces of fabric together face to face and sew together. Trim a straight edge and add another swatch of fabric. It is a free form don't have to measure exersize that is fun to do! When you are done just cut a square out of the fabric you just created and use it for whatever you are making.

It is so easy I taught a 9 yr old to do it and she made a pillow out of hers and won a ribbon at the local fair.
I also used it for my twin grandsons first foray into quilting. They are 6. They loved it and it was so easy for them to do.

I do miniatures so I can use anything down to a 3/4" size scrap. So don't throw your scraps away let someone else have them that will use them!!

I haven't done a crumb quilt yet, have all the intention of doing so and thus possibly reducing my crumbs, but I don't think it's possible to use them all up, so if anyone would be willing to pay postage, I'll send you a large flat rate box, literally stuffed, PM me if you want. I have 6 large totes full.

I've made a lot of crumb blocks but still haven't got enough for a quilt. The amount of thread used is just too much plus making those blocks drives me crazy. Once I get enough to finish a top, I'm FINISHED with crumbs...never want to do any more!!

How is the amt of thread any differant than a pieced block?

If this is a form of quilting you don't like then make a table runner or lap quilt out of what blocks you have made and move on to something else you do like to do. Don't stress over it. Quilting should be enjoyable not a hardship to do.

Ok, I don't call them crumbs, I call them scrap quilts . as I make them out of my scraps. I suppose crumps are the tiny pieces? well I am have a bunch of them right now from the quilting I am doing...Maybe I should try one...

What beautiful pinwheels, ok so I now understand how you can be addicted, I'm just not sure I can manage using material smaller than an inch. But it sounds like it would be worth trying. So I will save my crumbs and give it a try. I will let you know if you end up with a new crumb addict or a crumb donator. I'm making a paper piece project now which is generating numerous crumbs. That's what got me thinking and yes I have been saving all those crazy "little" pieces. I'd love to see another crumb quilt if anyone can post a pic. The pinwheels were so cute.
