Questions about copyrights

1. How can a person using standard shapes (squares, triangles, hexagons) be absolutely positive their creation has never been done before. Quilting is as old as the hills, I don't see any way they can prove the pattern is theirs completely.

2. Does a quilter who used an old school pattern but used unusual colors or unusual prints claim "copyright"? I've seen some patterns the have been public property for decades claimed as original when unusual fabrics have been used. Along with that, can a quilt that has used 2 or 3 long established patterns in one quilt claim "copyright" when only the combo is new?

understanding copyrights just takes a little research.

it isn't that asking the questions was wrong.
unfortunately a lot of the answers you'd get would be wrong.

go to your favorite search engine and you will find a lot of competent, reliable resources on the subject of copyrights as the have to do with quilting.
