Have decided to meander on my log cabin, planning to quilt by hand. I've never done any meandering before- is there anything I should know? And as far as marking it on the top, would a stencil be helpful? Thanks!

A stencil would definitely be helpful. www.quiltingstencils.com has several different sizes and configurations of the meandering stencils that you might find useful. Other companies have the stencil. I resized some this year to make them more useful for the spaces needed.

meandering usually means- no marking necessary- you simply ... meander along

you might want to mark some guide-lines to help keep your quilting balanced over the quilt- if you want a specific (design) you certainly could use stensils, or patterns- in my mind that takes you away from 'meandering' into a designed quilting plan

the batting you choose will specify how much quilting you have to do- some batts require quilting every 2" (which is quite dense) others allow up to 10" between stitching lines- it is important for a positive outcome to follow the recommendations on the batting
