.... or a long shoe/skate/boot lace would do the trick. Keep it for future use!

To make a 1 1/8 inch wide purse handle do the following:
1) Cut a piece of fabric 4 1/2 inches wide X length of fabric you would like the handle to be. 2) Fold the strip with wrong sides of fabric together in half and iron. Strip will then be 2 1/4 inches wide. 3) Fold both outter edges of fabric strip into middle of fabric towards ironed seam and press. You will still have a 2 1/4 inch wide strip of fabric. However, the bottom layer of the fabric will be one 2 1/4 wide strip and the top layer will be divided into two 1 1/8 sections. Press again. 4) Fold fabric one more time ending up with a 1 1/8 inch wide strip of fabric. Press again. 5. Top stitch on both sides of fabric strip. You will end up with a purse strap that is four layers of fabric, that has a tailored look and one that does not stretch. Width of handle can be adjusted to any size by making your original strip of fabric 4 X the width you want the actual handle to be. I hope this is understandable as I am not good at explaining stuff. If you have questions, please send me a PM and I wil answer ASAP. |

Then wrap it around the handle so that the fold is in the middle on the underside. Then sew a decorative stitch from the top. Works great and saves my hands from cramping from trying to turn handles right side out!

After torturing myself turning a handle inside out, I went in search of a tube turner - which I hope will work as advertised as I've avoided making bags for the last few months. My fingers ached from the last set for a week.
