Questions on Bargello Quilts

I have recently become fascinated by Bargello quilts. I would really like some to find out exactly what a bargello quilt is, the basics behind it, and good patterns for someone who has never made one before. Thank you in advance.

Here are some free patterns, http://quiltinspiration.blogspot.com...lo-quilts.html
some oher patterns http://www.amazon.com/More-Twist-Tur.../dp/1604682590 and http://www.amazon.com/Twist-Bargello...d_bxgy_b_img_y
some more complex ones http://www.lockwoodquilts.com/store/...lo_quilts.html

They are not as hard as they look, żou just have to stay organised and do things step by step. I found the hardest thing was chosing the fabrics.

A quick summary of Bargello is that it was originally a form of tapestry stitch using varying lengths of colored yarns on tapestry canvas to create designs. It has been translated into quilts using varying lengths and widths of fabric strips to create similar style designs.
Most Bargello quilt designs use a progression of shades from light to dark of one to four colors (most often only one or two).
Hope this helps!

Bonnie Hunter at quiltville.com also has directions for a scrappy bargello type quilt that she calls "scrappy trip around the world"

I have loved Bargello since High School in the 60s. Mom-6 is right. I have 3 books on needlepoint with lots of Bargello designs. One of the simplest and easiest Bargello patterns is a soft cover pattern book by Piecemakers of Costa Mesa CA called "The Bargello Book". Have fun and good luck.

www.quiltville.com has a scrappy bargello called "The Incredible Scrappy Bargello Quilt". You can use up some funky fabrics, and see how colorful it can be! :)
