I have recently brought home almost 2 boxes of quilt fabric and have brought a few questions about some of the pieces

1) Several pieces are from the salvages. What size width is the best for twin beds? I have sizes from 1-inch to 6-inch wide. Most are single pieces and are already cut into the strips.

2) Heavy flannel good for filling--anyone tried this? I have also several pieces that would be good for baby quilts but they are not real great for the backing.

3) Can ANYone tell me what happened to the first seven months of this year???? Can't believe it is almost August. I'm already considering making several baby quilts for my church Christmas give away. Also going to make dolls w/complete wardrobe--blouse, under shirt, skirt, dress, slacks, slip, wrap-around skirt, pajamas, house robe, and (hopefully) house slippers.

60 X 80 is the size quilt my church group made for twin beds. That is not long enough for a fold over the pill. I do believe a twin mattress is 40 inches wid so you have a 10 inch drop on each side.

I've always figured a twin size was 72" X 85" (or however long you can get out of two fabrics sewn together.) Of course, you have to make the backing bigger if you're longarming them.

I have absolutely used flannel as an alternative to batting. Sounds like you had a good haul!

I would make sure the flannel is washed and dried first or you could get a huge amount of shrinkage. The twin sized donation quilts that I make are 65-70x85-90 inches. We have been asked for some longer ones to accommodate tall teens and men at the shelters.
