I have a simple HST I want to use on the border of a sailboat quilt and wonder how to "transfer" a paper drawing of the shape to become a marking template. Do you cut template plastic and trace around it? This seems easy but I'm baffled. You pros always have answers!

I put the paper under the plastic, trace and then cut the plastic :D:D:D

That's what I do, too. Then I make a sample before marking hundreds of pieces so I am sure the pattern was drafted correctly. Ask me how I know to do this! It's a real bummer to start sewing all those parts together only to find they come out wonky.
