15-91 sews thru layers. Seems easy to clean and maintain. I'm still getting to know mine. I call her Ethel!

Not much for sewing on the 301A, mainly for FMQ.
I have a desk here that I'm seriously thinking of converting it to fit the machine on there and I want the foot pedal to be on the side like the 401A in the cabinet because you have more control with the speed and sewing using your knee/leg. With the pedal on the floor, it skids, or slides, or the cat wants to join along, so the knee lever is much better in my opinion.
That is going to be my next project, but I need time to figure it out on customizing this old desk.
Will keep you posted.[/quote]

Oh yes love the side pedal! I do not like sewing with the little knobby pedal. a FW with a little knobby pedal is coming camping with me though. I do not have another one besides the one on another Singer but it is stuck onto it permanently.

The singer 301 is lighter and would be nice as a full size portable machine. It is considered the big sister of the feather Weight eventhough it looks none like it. there is a cute little handle on top to cary it. Still not a super light machine though. also it is does not sew through as much as the 15-91. I like this machine for paper piecing but not for quilting.

Wow! What gorgeous machines and am glad to hear that you use them! Thanks for posting them, that really helped and I didn't know you need a reverse lever on the 15-91.
Thanks again,

Ok and if I get the 15-91, I'll name her Lucy! I think I'm going for the 15-91 first....we'll see, I'm still torn with not much $$ to spend.
Blessings,

Just thought to update everyone. Well the ones I was bidding on got too expensive for me right now. I did actually win an auction last night and bought this 301. I had contacted the seller, who happens to be about 1.5 hrs away from me, and it sounds like she's been refurbished and running great. I loved the stitching samples he's shown. On Tuesday I'll make the trip to pick her up.

Meanwhile here's a photo or two, she's got some scratches, etc. But as long as she can sew like a dream, that's all I care about. I think she was a bit expensive, but cheaper than any other 301 sold lately on ebay- that has been refurb & serviced.

BTW. I've got a bid on a 15-91 as well. We'll see if I actually win that one..LOL!
