Do you make the side strips longer or the top & bottom strips longer? (I mean, which do you sew on first - which is the shorter one and which strip not only touches the sides of your squares but also the border strip on the other end - does this make any sense??) And if you have an inner and outer border, would they both be the same or one one way and one the other?

do the sides first and the top and bottom.

I do it the other way, top and bottom first then sides.

I think it's a matter of opinion.

I also think it's a matter of opinion, and I'd do both borders the same way unless you lay it out and find that you really like it that way.

I have been starting with the top and bottom first.

Most patterns say sides first, then top and bottom. Once in a while, you'll find a pattern that says the opposite. I don't know if there is a wrong or right. I wonder if there is a reason to do it one way over the other way.

i do mine whatever side i sew to first...sometimes it's the sides, then the top and bottom, sometimes it's the top & bottom first, then the sides. If i have more than one border, I do each one the same.
