quick, I need your help, which background?

making a mug rug for my dad...
not finished yet, but it's supposed to look like a coffee to go styrofoam cup.
which background do you like?

I'm also going to be adding a bug (inside joke), so the only concern I have about using the waves is getting the direction to all be the same...for whatever reason, it bothers me if the pattern is really all over the place with foundation piecing.

anyway, what do you think?

I am unfond of that green, but the other does not show it off well. Maybe a deep red or brown>

Yes, a nice coffee brown.

I just can't decide. my problem is I literally have NO solid colors whatsoever. none! maybe a rich brown would be nice.
I should probably use a solid, right? or at least a small/simple pattern.

I thought so too. all my current blues are pretty bold patterns though. I was shocked to realise I had no solids in my stash. well, not too shocked I guess, I am always drawn to pattern and texture and have not made many quilts. I guess a trip to the store is in order! ...umm, tomorrow when it is daylight. :)

The green has more contrast, but I agree that blue or brown would really set it off. I also have almost no solids in my stash...I am addicted to beautiful prints! LOL I do love marbles, Kaufman fusions and other almost solid prints. They make a nice addition to any stash.

If those are the 2 choices, then definitely the green.

The green might be a little too prissy for a guy?

Good luck and nice of you to make it for him...bug and all :)

Elainequilts 04-05-2012 08:19 AM

The second.

Okay, I'll be the odd person and tell you I like the green. Howeve since it's for your Dad, I would say go with a dark brown since he isn't likely to wash it much?

AliKat 04-05-2012 12:05 PM

I like the green. It would be easy to see and the contrast is good.

Since it's going to be small, I'd go with the green, nice and bright and cheery.
