So I don't want to be complaining, but I'm already preparing for winter :cry: but since I still live with my parents, and we started working on my room last winter (I had very little insulation) and it was a long cold winter. Since it obviously won't be finished this year and another long cold winter is predicted, I would like to make a quilt for my bed and use wool batting (cross your fingers!) and my bed is a twin. I'd like it to be a wide twin quilt and there are so many more difficult patterns (for me) to try so I would like this to be a simple but elegant quilt that's quick to make.

I've already done a patchwork and we have quite a few log cabin and feed sack quilts made but don't fit my bed. I'd like an old pattern as my house was built around the civil war and we're restoring it so that it doesn't look to modern laying on my bed when it's finally done

If you want a warm quilt, you may do as I do, I use a light blanket for the backing.

There are some great flannels that would add warmth and you could make matching pillowcases, Courthouse Steps would be a good pattern choice to consider along with the suggestions already made.

I just saw an ad at the bottom of the page that reminded me that the Rail Fence is an old fashioned pattern and very easy... wool batting is very easy to work with and will be nice and warm. You can also use fleece on the back to really warm you up!

I know someone who used actual sheeps fleece, washed and carded, for her batting. It was so warm! Her room had no heat at all and it kept her warm. Another really warm quilt solution is to use wool material as your quilting material. My grandmother made several using blocks cut from granddad's old suits, backed it with flannel, no batting and tied it. Very warm. Very authentic for old time style as these were made around 1900 and she had made several before then.
