Quieter Now

My DH was getting a little testy over the constant drone of my feather weight while I pieced a king sized crumb quilt out of old scraps. I'mm tired of the klunk klunk klunk of the sewing machine....can you give it a rest for a while? Hmmmm, ah, no. So I went and gave my featherweight a good cleaning and oiling. Now it runs so quiet, you can't tell it is stitching. A quick demo bought me a reduction in sentence, and I am free to stitch onward and upward. I felt bad I had neglected my favorite sewing machine. How much longer and I might have ruined it. Just sharing a reminder to oil your machine, too.

Cleaning and oiling is part of my Sunday routine. Reminds me--should go do that now.

It is also my routine too!

I don't sew in the same room with family. They (DH) are too noisy for me. Check out this site for everything you need to know about Featherweight maintenance, tools, tips and care. http://www.novamontgomery.com/

Those FWs are thirsty girls, pretty much daily if you use them daily. But you can hear when it is time to oil if you pay attention.

Years ago, I was sewing while talking on the phone to my mother (me in Arizona, her is California) and she said you need to oil your machine and change your needle, LOL, it was amazing she never heard the important stuff but she sure tuned in on that machine. :p

Thank you for the info on Nova Montgomery's site. Bookmarked it. Now to get my featherweight out and give it a good cleaning.

Yes, my Featherweight is so quiet that I tell people that I could sew on it during church service and nobody could hear me. LOL!!!

I was told the quieter the machine the more precision went into the fitting of the parts. The older FWs seem to be quieter then the later ones.

Thanks for the Nova Montgomery site. I need a refresher course on taking my machine apart and cleaning and lubricating the old girl.

My FW was born 2 days before me and I know how achy I am, so she must be pretty achy too and needing more TLC than I tend to give her.
