Hi all!
I was just wondering how to become a secret quilt angel to someone? How would you get their mailing info and such? Thanks in advace! :) |
I'd also like the same info too!! I know I send things to other board members from time to time, but I'd also like to do this anonymously.
|
Go to members swap and round robins there is a link for the Secret Quilt angel. i belive it closes on the 5th of August!!!

I found the answer to mine, this swap is closed and will finish up on Christmas 2010!!! Maybe there'll be another one and I can be lucky enough to get on it! |
Oh sorry gotcha. I am not sure sorry.
|
Thats what I wanted too. I want to be an anonymous quilt angel to someone.
|
this is a "tough" one. i don't think there's a perfect solution because we cannot share another member's personal info without their permission.
some members have started a Pay it Forward activity. it comes close ... http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-45265-1.htm |
There is also a monthly secret pal swap
|
I'm thinking there would have to be a co=ordinator who would perhaps take the names and addys of people who want to have an angel, and those who want to be an angel could contact them to get the information. By signing up to have an angel, they would be giving permission for their address and other info to be given out.
Perhaps on signing up, each one could give some info like what they like to make, color preferences if any, and their skill level, etc. Just a thought on how this might work. Otherwise I guess you could pick someone you have already had an exchange with and just not tell them it's you. Since if you have exchanged already, you would have their info. Patrice, any thoughts on this? |
i'm sorry but the answer is, and must remain, a definite "no". we cannot do this.
it's a very well-intended idea. to everyone who wants to help their fellow quilters. but here are the problems: (1) we are a huge and highly visible group on the internet. because we bond as friends, we tend to forget that everything we say and do is visible to thousands of people we will never "know" or "meet" within posts to the board itself. (2) if we start soliciting and collecting requests for freebies, we'd be leaving ourselves wide open to con artists and others with very unsavory motives and goals. there is no doubt in my mind that we would very quickly find ourselves in "communication" with data miners, spammers, crooks, and - quite likely - perverts. so far, we've been able to protect you from all but a little bit of that. we've also been able to move swiftly to fix the few problems we've had of that nature. an activity like the one proposed would make it nearly impossible to maintain our success and good record in that regard. (3) as much as i love all of you, the truth is that none of us can truely know everybody who's registered as a member. so, there is also a very real danger that we'd give away personal information to creeps posing as donors. if a quilter is in need, the last thing we'd want to add to their troubles is to make them vulnerable to identity theft or worse. again, my sincere thanks to all who want to help. but we must make do with the options already at hand. |
Oh well, Maybe me and someone else can become quilt angels to each other, that way we can give each other our own info. It wouldnt be anonymous but would be just as fun!
|
Leah, You can always quilt something for a local hospital - A Cancer Center Unit - there is always someone there that would love a quilt to snuggle with and feel loved! Just another suggestion!
|
It can be done in private with someone you know needs a hug. Use the PM. Sometimes it feels good to do that but on this group you can maybe get info through PM to send something but as a group too many here. By the way wonder what the number of members is?

the secret quilt angel program is a year long program, we signed up last fall/winter for this year. our obligation is to send something every month for the year to our angel-ee; so if you want to get in on this watch the board for next year's sign ups; i would guess it will show up in November or somewhere before the middle of December so angel's can be assigned to their secret pal for next year. for me this has been alot of fun putting together little packages each month for a person i do not really know and also of course the recieving has been great. unfortunatly there have been a few people who have not met their obligations; so,i hope if you do want to join in next year's program you really understand that this is a YEAR LONG COMMITMENT.
