Quilt backings

Has anyone used sheets for backing. I am considering buying flat sheets in the bulk to have on hand for quilt backs. Don't want anything that would pill or stretch. Don't know exactly which fiber would be best.

I have used 'used' sheets. They are softer after their many washings.

I use sheets all of the time. I prefer all cotton but often have to use polycotton or flannel. I will not use microfibre as I hate the feel of it. I haven't tried bamboo. I have never had a problem with sheets stretching or pilling. There are all sorts of myths about using sheets but I haven't had any problems using them. My APQS Lenni doesn't care what backing that I use, sheets don't wear out sooner than tops and cotton sheets are not an inferior backing in my opinion.

It used to be that sheets were harder to hand quilt through but with machine quilting it no longer matters. You still want good quality sheets so they last the life of the quilt.

I have used sheets for backings, but I only use a cotton one, or flannel.

I have used sheets and have the best results on my longarm with lower thread count sheets.

Target has their "threshold" sheets that come packaged with a flat sheet..(you can also buy the fitted one)..They are 300 thread count...wash nicely...and are easy to quilt (I use a long arm)..
