I watch for sales all over. And I found some new spots to check with this thread.

Its the wrong time of year now, but Amazon flannel sheet sets get big price breaks in the spring and summer. I have been able to get a few sets for $25 each. Between the flat and fitted sheet that is a lot of fabric. I don't know if that is proper fabric, but its soft and cuddly :)

I think about any store selling fabric would have wide backings.

Try Marshall Dry goods. They have some 108" backings that are only $3.99. Most of those are Mary Fons fabric and they are good quality. They also stock other 108" backings at 8.99.

Flannel sheets do make great backings; you're right, there is a lot of fabric in them. I like to be able to touch the flannel before buying, though.

I shop sales but usually find good prices at Connecting Threads, Marshalls, and QuiltFabric Closeout. I also buy a whole bolt of quality white muslin from my LQS--she lets me know when Moda is dropping their price to shops and gives it to me at that price (I quilt samples for her at times). by the bolt is most cost effective as you don't have waste.

Lucky me I don't need to go online for extra wide backing. I am about an hour from Shipshawana, Indiana and a couple times a year I meander down and by wide backings from there. I also have a shop that has a good selection if I need something in a hurry. I also have been known to purchase a bolt of JoAnn's highest quality bleached muslin from time to time. I often use white so it works for me.

I will be watching your thread for online suggestions too.

Connecting Threads has awesome backs. Right now they only go up to 104", but they will be coming out with 108" soon. And they do go on sale!

I get the best prices and variety at Marshall Dry Goods in Batesville, AR. When I go there, I stock up on backing fabric for at least a 6 month supply and then shop the other bargains. I have never been displeased with their fabrics. I am certainly not one to enter quilts in shows. I just quilt for myself, family and friends.

I have ordered from Quilted Twins, and though the price was terrific, we did have a little bit of a problem with the fabric weave being uneven, which made rolling it on the frame pretty tricky. This was the case with all of their backings. We have used two wide backings from Hobby Lobby with wonderful results!
