Does anyone know the name of this quilt block????

moonhoney2 06-02-2008 03:36 PM

I don't know, but that's a cute quilt and pattern. I'd like to try that one day.

It almost looks like a bow-tie block.........

Yes, I think it is a bowtie block too.
Here's a link to the one on Quilter's Cache:

iT DOES LOOK LIKE BOW TIE, BUT THE CENTER PIECE IS ONE SQUARE AND IN BOW TIE IT WOULD END UP BEING 4 SMALL PIECES

I do not know but I really like the colors. I think it looks great:)

lfw045 06-03-2008 04:45 AM

It is a beautiful quilt.......I really like those colors. I have looked and looked and I am convinced that it is just a bow-tie variant. I could very well be wrong though.

I agree with the bow tie block and this is a bit of a variation so probably has another name........pretty though........do you know who made it?

A traditional bow tie block has set-in seams for the center square, not the four piece variation that is now used for quickie blocks. I think this one is a traditional bow tie block.

There are several ways to construct the Bow Tie Block. Your picture is one of them (with a white center). Usually the center is the same color as two of the diagonal corners. Hope this helps. Here are some patterns:

Thanks Minda for the sites. I still think it has another name.
Loretta, Let us know if you find it. I really like the pattern. I never really looked at it closely before.

I have no idea how to put a picture of a block here from EQ but I know alot of ladies here have the program. If you draw a bow tie block & colour it in with these colours, it certainly looks like the block.

patricej 06-03-2008 11:45 PM

it absolutely, positively, IS the traditional bowtie block.

thing is ... there are many blocks out there with more than one name. sooooooo ... it could also be something else.

why don't we name it Herman?

Wow, i love how white was used in the centre of the bow! That's one gorgeous quilt, but those Y seams look very hard to do :)

vicki reno 06-05-2008 10:15 AM

I almost looks like a 4 patch/snowball block. Really pretty colors, too.

MANY YEARS AGO, BOW-TIE BLOCKS WERE MADE THAT WAY. THE ONES WITH THE LITTLE PIECES IS A MORE MODERN WAY. THE OLD WAY HAD THAT SET-IN CENTER SQUARE. UGH! SO DIFFICULT. LOL!
