Our guild contracted for the Quilt Bus in March. We had ads in the papers and were preparing for their visit. The day before they were to arrive, it was learned that they had had mechanical problems in New England and would not be able to make it. They offered to send a van, but no classes or lectures. Needless to say, many were disappointed.

Inasmuchas the guild had not contracted for a "van" the event was cancelled. The local radio stations tried to alert prospective visitors, a notice was listed in the papers, but still 50 or so folks came to the site. And since the guild wanted the "bus" and they offered to send a "van", we were not refunded our deposit. The guild felt that there was a breach of contract.

We did not doubt that they had mechanical problems, but the guild will not reschedule them for obvious reasons.

what a let down- i don't blame them for not doing it again

Yoru right the van is not much good when the main reason you wanted the quilt bus was not offered with the van. When you contract for the bus you contracted for the classes and lectures. Their offer of the van was a nice geuster but not what you paid for.

How disappointing for your guild members! The sad part is those folks that didn't hear about the cancellation will likely look askance at other things y'all try to plan.

sorry for your disappointment and I marvel at their breach of contract. I bet a lawyer could make hay out of that because of the classes, etc that were promised and such.....

The guild is writing it off as a bad experience, not to be repeated.

My reasoning for letting you all know, is for those who may want the bus to visit your area, to get a guarantee from them if for whatever the reason they need to cancel or want to send a "van".

Did they not at least offer to re-schedule? (How un-professional on their part!) I'm scared to ask, but how much was the deposit your guild lost?

Suz 05-05-2007 02:48 PM

Sorry! I can answer either question.

I had received an email from the guild and there was a short discussion at our next meeting but these items did not come up. I do know that someone from our guild checked the "bus schedule" and the folks who were scheduled after us were advised of our situation. I really don't know how these groups made out.

So much for what was expected to be a fun weekend. Classes were scheduled for Saturday, patterns had been purchased, supplies were in hand. A lecture/demo was scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Some of the folks who came on Saturday not knowing about the cancellation came a long distance.

On the brighter side, Alex Anderson will be at a quilt shop (which also sells the Bernina) on May 10. We have to travel for an hour but I am sure it will be worth the trip and of course, we can also shop at this shop as well as another that is nearby. Looking forward to this event.

Whow, he is awsome. Very unusual for a man (sorry Tim) to quilt. But then again we have more and more woman getting into non-traditional occupations. I wish I was born later than what I was. I had two older sisters (not by much). Both quit school in their senior year to get married cuz they were pg. I remember about 1 month before graduation I told my dad I wanted to go to college and become a nurse. You know what he said to me. I'm not going to pay for college when you will probably drop out when you get pregnant and marry like your sister did.

Do a Google search. He is a peeanner playing quilter with a big cowboy hat and a series of quilt lectures that includes a concert by him.
