I was just curious what date to put on my quilt label.
Is it the day I finish it; the day I give it to the person, the date of the occassion (if applicable)? Thanks for the info as always!! :D |
I put the pattern name, date finished and my name. I was wondering that too. Previously, I just put my initials, my signature bichon and the date.

I always use the finish date, because it isn't really a quilt until you finish it ;-)

I would say the finish date...Im bad, never labeled one!

I often put start and finish dates on my quilt. Sometimes generates laughter at Christmas, particlularly the year someone got 1991-1993 (crossed out, 1996, crossed out also, 2001. I hand embroider labels and decided I wasn't ripping out, just adding. |
I love it!! I have quilt blocks that I started hand embroidery on in 1969, the year that I was pregnant with my first child. Seven grandkids later, it still isn't done!! Talk about a W.I.P!!
Geeze! |
it depends...i have one quilt that took me 5 years to complete, on the label i have the start date, the finish date and a little story about the process which caused it to be a 5 year project. on most of my quilts i put a 'general' date...like finished October 2010...or made for Christmas 1999. it just depends on what i want the label to conveigh.

If I can remember when I started a quilt, I will put in that date plus the finished date. Sometimes I put:
Made by (my name), (place) in a class taught by (teacher's name) at (quilt store) in April, 2004. Finished May 2010. If I can't remember when or where it was started, I just put: Made by (my name), (place), April 2010. Sometimes, I will put a little story in about why I am making it and who for. But, I always add a label. Verna in So CA |
I make my labels with the iron on transfer to fabric (and computer) with "Made by _____________________"
Quilter by _______________________ Made 2010 Surprise, AZ (wherever I happen to be living at the time. I love the iron on labels but if you are using a dark background they have a special sheet for that. Lynne Plotner-Pierce |
I always use the finished date.

I believe that, for purposes of showing a quilt, which is the strictest rules quilters put on dating a quilt that I know of, it is the date of the LAST stitch that goes into a quilt that determines the date of finish.
Like, if you start an Irish Chain and put it aside for 5 years and then finish it January 5 2011, say, then that's the finish date. If you go back and embellish it with something, then that becomes the finish date. Am I right in this? Someone will know. . |
I'm bad, I've never labeled a quilt.
