what if you made a 9-patch block of black and white with a red square in the center for the alternate block?

I'm voting for #2. I love black in quilts as it always makes the other fabrics pop. (IMHO) That's going to be a fun quilt no matter which option you choose.

I just realized that I said red and black. I like the black and white (3rd one). Duh. It makes the kitty cats pop more than the others do.

My choice would be the black and white 4P. Either red 4P gets lost in the main focus fabric and the effect is lost. It will be a fun quilt what ever you choose.
