I'm a newbie, this is my second quilt. Do you think it will look ok to do fee-motion or stippling with the busy top?

quiltilicious 06-18-2010 09:32 AM

a meander would look fine... thread color will make a difference. Not sure what I'd choose for this. perhaps a varigated thread in the main colors of the quit? I"m not the best quilter yet, either. figuring out how to quilt a top is my weak point.

I think a loose stipple or meander would be pretty on this quilt. I am at a loss as to the color of thread too... how much or little do you want the quilting to show?

Really don't have a suggestion as to how you should quilt it but wanted to say that is an awesome "second" quilt , very pretty and your corners are mitered so perfectly!

Absolutely thumbs up on a meander. As for the color, I would use a variegated thread. Either tans or one with many of the colors in the quilt. After all - if the fabric works well together, then the thread should too. Pretty quilt btw.

you are a newbie????? Gosh, that is a great quilt top you made!

What a cute quilt! I'm hexagon-crazed at the moment. I think anyway you quilt it will be lovely.

Thanks everyone! I like the idea of meander. I'll probably choose a thread color to match the back. I don't want it to show too much.
Now what color back? I like just about all the colors in the quilt. When I started I liked the gold and wine colors but today my favorite is the coral and the teal blue-green

I have a Phaff, regular size. My quilt top is 96X88. Do you think I will be able to roll all of that up into may machine? I'm going to use classic cotton 80/ 20 poly batting

beautiful quilt
I would use Bottom Line pale grey which won't show. Large meandering stitch is good; small will give you a stiff quilt, little drape.
That's a busy quilt already; I don't think adding more colour in thread will enhance it, quite the contrary.

I vote for a Meander. I love to use variegated threads, do you have a variegated thread that has a couple of the colors in there? Or even if you found one in the Teal.

variegated thread and a meander would be just fine!

What a great quilt! I wish my 2nd looked that nice!

Love the quilt and the fabrics are delightful. What is the name of the pattern? Would love to make one just to use up a bunch of fat quarters that keep piling up on me.

That is a beautiful quilt. I would meander if you don't want to stitch in the ditch. Both would be fine.

The pattern is from Amy Butler "Sexy Hexy Love Quilt." But I made it bigger, to fit on our bed, by adding hexes and half hexes to do it. The pattern is free internet down load.

It's finish! I did a meander with pinkish tan variegated thread. Thanks for everyones help. I like it and it survived the washing machine! The picture was taken before I wash it, just in case.
