quilt design programs
I am looking for a relatively inexpensive design program. I have downloaded a free one but can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone suggest a program for me. Thanks in advance.

Fairly good tutorial. Gimp is open source and free. I use it on Linux, but it does have a Windows edition. I read through as Gimp is the closest equivalent to Photoshop. Well done. Since the poster is a member, you might be able to ask. |
The questions are how much will you be using the software, and what is relatively inexpensive? I use EQ7 and feel that **for me** it is a bargain for what it does. However I also bought Quilt Wizard, which is much less expensive, but doesn't do as much. (And I hardly ever use Quilt Wizard because of that.) I use EQ7 a lot and consider it an important tool in my quilting. I compare its price to the price of fabric these days, or the price of a sewing machine. I use EQ for just about every quilt I make, and lots more quilts that I don't make. I probably spend more time with EQ than with my sewing machine, rotary cutter, or longarm. (I might spend more time with my seam ripper though.) I just bought EQStitch recently, which modifies EQ so that you can design embroidery in EQ and then stitch out the designs on your embroidery machine. So, for me, EQ was a better buy than Quilt Wizard, even though it cost much more.

Thank you both for your information. I appreciate it.

I efficiently use the Paint accessory program that comes with Windows on my laptop. No extra purchase necessary. Taught myself how to use it.

I had Quilt Design Wizard and I had fun with it, but it wasn't long before i realized it wasn't doing enough for me. I ended up buying a used version of EQ5 at the time but I've since upgraded to EQ7 and now I have EQStitch. I love it.

When I don't feel too lazy, I like Adobe Illustrator. Inkscape would work, too. EQ5 at least has some limitations on things that I don't like. In Illustrator, I control everything.

I have EQ 6, and like it alot, but I am just now learning the program, so I'm very limited...I've not owned any other brands.
